German taxi driver disappointed with reward for finding Neuer’s wallet

Taxi driver Hazir drove 120 km at his own expense to return the lost wallet to the Bayern Munich star. He claims to have spent 400 euros for the 120-kilometre journey. The driver was bitterly disappointed with the jersey he received.
A few weeks ago, Hazir S. drove Manuel Neuer and his friend from Munich’s Odeonsplatz to an apartment building in the Lehel district. “I recognized Neuer immediately, but I didn’t approach him,” the taxi driver told German Bild.
While cleaning the taxi at the end of his shift, he found Neuer’s wallet in the car. The wallet contained 800 euros in cash, a Visa Platinum card and a black Mastercard. “The ID card had Neuer’s name and address on it,” the taxi driver said.
Hazir S. went home after his shift and wanted to return the wallet to its owner at noon. When he tried to return the wallet to Neuer, he was neither at his previous location in Munich’s Lehel district nor at his home on Lake Tegernsee. Thanks to a passer-by, Hazir managed to deliver the wallet at least to Neuer’s manager in Tegernsee, with whom he had left his contact details.
The taxi driver was annoyed by the finder’s fee he received
Two weeks later, he received the goalkeeper’s jersey in the mail without a single comment. A bitter disappointment for the honest taxi driver who had driven at least 120 kilometres for his efforts. “The finder’s fee is a mockery! I have four children,” says the angry taxi driver. “I can’t do anything with this jersey .“
Under German law, a finder is entitled to five per cent of the value of a 500-euro find. For anything over 500 euros, it’s only another three percent. At a material value of 500 euros, five percent is equivalent to 25 euros, and for the remaining 300 euros, three percent is added, or 9 euros.
The finder would thus receive €34 for the net amount in Neuer’s wallet. This is significantly less than the cost of an FC Bayern jersey. Depending on the variant, these usually cost over 100 euros.
The big problem seems to be the 120km taxi route, which according to Bild should be worth 400 euros.
