Ronaldo had the first small chance in the fifth minute, but his header was just wide of the target. In the 16th minute, Mbappé had an excellent chance, after a beautiful through pass from Pogba, he found himself alone in front of Patricio, but he only headed into the middle of the goal and Patricio caught his shot.
In the twenty-ninth minute, Lloris hit Danilo Pereira’s head with a hard strike while boxing the ball, causing a penalty. Ronaldo sent Lloris the other way and converted the penalty with ease. In the 30th minute, Portugal took the lead, deservedly so.
In the first half itself, referee Lahoz awarded a questionable penalty. Benzema placed the ball on the penalty spot and equalised at 1-1.
At the start of the second half, Benzema scored France’s second goal. Video had to come into play, but the goal was conceded. France took the lead two minutes into the second half.
In the 59th minute, the third penalty of the match was kicked. Ronaldo struck the arm of Koundé and kicked the second penalty of the match. He sent Lloris the other way again to level the match at 2-2.
In the 67th minute, Paul Pogba of France sent a great shot into the net from outside the box, but Rui Patricio brilliantly cleared the ball to the bar, and Griezmann’s follow-up was also caught.
Nothing big happened in the rest of the game and the match ended in a draw. France secured the first place in the group, Portugal advances from the third place.
