The transfer saga of Moisés Caicedo has kept the whole of England busy in recent days. The Brighton midfielder was originally supposed to go to Chelsea, then Liverpool stepped in, but now it looks like the Blues are back in the picture.
Chelsea have been pushing for Moisés Caicedo all summer. With Brighton haggling over every euro, the south of England outfit have been pretty relentless. The Blues, unlike in the winter, didn’t want to overpay for reinforcements.
So Liverpool stepped in this morning and offered exactly the amount the Seagulls were asking for – £110 million. Brighton immediately unlocked the transfer, even Jürgen Klopp confirmed the deal, a medical has already been booked, all that was left was to fine-tune the personal details.
But that’s where the transfer fell through. Caicedo, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, refused the transfer to Liverpool and told the club that he only wanted to go to Chelsea.
He has thus kept his word to Chelsea, as he has been agreed on personal terms with the club since the end of May. Now it’s the Blues’ turn, who have to come to an agreement with Brighton.
Fans experienced quite a rollercoaster of emotions during Friday morning. Whilst Blues fans were aggrieved at the whole situation where they have been waiting all summer for a new signing and he finally goes to Liverpool, Reds fans were euphoric that the management will finally shell out proper money for the signing.
However, the whole situation has turned around again, Liverpool have finally gone cold and Blues supporters are beside themselves with happiness. Now it will be up to the Ecuadorian midfielder to prove that his price tag is justified.
