In mid-October, a new project was announced at the Oktagon tournament in Frankfurt. Former football player Martin Fenin is to become a professional MMA fighter within a year. Now the former great talent has posted a video of his training, which he used to entertain his fans.
The story of Martin Fenin is one of the most intimidating in Czech football. Quite possibly a world-class talent had the potential to play for Europe’s biggest clubs. He led the under-20 national team to the final of the 2007 World Cup.
In January 2008 he went straight from Teplice to Eintracht Frankfurt. For the first two seasons he showed his quality in the Bundesliga. But then everything went downhill. He changed a bunch of clubs, followed by various troubles in his life and his promising career was gone.
Fenin never fulfilled his potential and ended his career quite early. Moreover, few would have guessed from looking at him that he was only 35 years old. However, he now has another big challenge ahead of him.
Oktagon is trying to establish itself on the German market and the Teplice football alumnus is one of the personalities who will help it to do so. In Germany, football players are not forgotten, especially in Frankfurt, where Fenin played almost 100 games.
In a year’s time, Fenin is set to turn pro, entertaining the fans on his journey
In October, the Czechoslovakian organization officially announced a project that will chart the year-long journey of Fenin, who is set to become a professional fighter. He is still looking for an opponent, but the former Czech footballer is already working hard to improve.
Over the weekend, he posted a training video that amused fans. One would like to say that it shows that he remains faithful to football. But he also proves once again that he can make fun of himself.
“The journey to the cage will take a while, I still have to train for another ten months or so. My wife said I have to give it a try. I want to show her and my daughter that I am still a professional athlete and that I can be one. I’m not afraid, but I’m nervous,” Fenin told the audience in Frankfurt.
