Oktagon announced the new project in Frankfurt in October, with Martin Fenin as the main face. He has 10 months of preparation to become a fighter who will appear in an MMA fight. The project is mainly aimed at the German market.
Considering Fenin’s life story, this is an interesting opportunity to not only get in shape, but also to repair his badly tarnished reputation. Moreover, it has an interesting motivation.
When he visited an Oktagon tournament in Štvanica in the summer, his girlfriend was asked if she could imagine him in an MMA fight.
Her reaction? She said he had alcohol as a friend and that’s why she didn’t trust him. Naturally, this pissed Fenin off, so he decided to go ahead with the project.
“The first training session was awkward and ridiculous. I can laugh about it now, but it was really bad. My coach and I are already friends, but at the first training I thought it wasn’t going to be pretty. It’s awhole different world,” he let his voice be heard in the first episode of the series charting his journey.
Fenin admitted he is more of a team player. But in MMA, he’ll have to rely on himself. He hasn’t been a professional football player for nearly five years. “I saw that I wasn’t fit and I said to myself. You can’t do anything better than MMA,'” he let slip.
The goal is to get his weight down to 84 kilograms. “I have to thank the Octagon. When you’re 35 years old, you don’t get a chance like this. I got it. Now I have everything. I train six to seven times a week. Oktagon did everything to make me successful,” Fenin added.
