The biggest fight of the modern boxing era was supposed to take place earlier this year
The Christmas present for all boxing fans will come a little early this year. The biggest battle of modern times, in which two champions will fight for all the titles, has finally been confirmed.
The modern era of boxing has been waiting for this fight for several years. After all, what could be more exciting than a battle between two undefeated champions? The anticipated fight is further embellished by the fact that it is a war between two implacable rivals.
To make matters worse, it took 20 long years for the boxing world to see all four major world titles unified. So what more could you ask for? Just that the fight finally happens. Already at the turn of the year, the news of this fight was like a soap opera in the boxing world.
But the fight was eventually scrapped because the two camps couldn’t agree on a purse split. While the Ukrainian boxer was willing to lower his demands to 40%, Fury kept setting new conditions until the fight was off.
Thus, Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois in August at the Wroclaw Stadium in Poland and defended his IBF, WBO and IBO titles. Fury, on the other hand, enjoyed his boxing retirement and arranged an exhibition match with former UFC champion Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
However, Fury and Usyk have only now come to an agreement. When can we expect to see a unification fight?
So it came as a bolt from the blue when yesterday’s news on the British legend’s social media confirmed the signing of a contract for a unification fight. Shortly afterwards, the Ukrainian champion also reacted. “I’m ready to go to the fight,” wrote Usyk on his Twitter / X.
Both men also confirmed the venue in their post. There was already talk of a possible fight at Wembley last season, but given the date, the more logical confirmed option is in Saudi Arabia.
In fact, the Mirror also came up with information that the mega-fight will take place on December 23. That’s less than two months after Fury’s fight with Ngannou. So let’s hope none of the participants get hurt and we finally get to see the biggest possible boxing match of our time.
