The Champions League final is coming up this Saturday when Real Madrid face Liverpool
The Champions League, formerly the European Champions Cup, is the most prestigious club competition within the European continent, if not the entire football world. The most successful team in the competition is clearly Real Madrid.
Real Madrid has managed to lift the Eared Cup thirteen times, while AC Milan is in second place with ‘only’ seven wins. Third place is shared by Bayern Munich with six titles and Liverpool, who will be looking to jump to second place after this year’s final.
The final of this year’s edition is approaching by leaps and bounds and we will soon see the denouement of another football story. This Saturday, Real Madrid and Liverpool will face each other at Princes Park for the third time in the competition’s history.
Real fans celebrate eight years since Sergio Ramos’ memorable header in the 2014 UEFA European Championship final
Real Madrid fans and their former captain are celebrating a significant anniversary today. Today marks eight years since their club played the Champions League final against their Madrid rivals Atlético. And the match did not go well for them in the first ninety minutes.
24.on 5 May 2014, at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, the White Ballet were trailing from the 36th minute after Diego Godín’s goal. But as we have seen this season, Real Madrid did not give up until the last second of the match.
In fact, as the last minute of the match ticked down, Real Madrid got a corner kick. Luka Modric played it in and sat the centre on the head of Real captain Sergio Ramos, who forced extra time of the final match with just seconds left in regulation time at 92:48.
The Los Blancos players, who were drenched in water, came out like a hurricane and scored three more goals. They thus won the coveted La Décima trophy, the tenth trophy for the winners of this competition in twelve years.
It is certainly interesting to note that the current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was on the bench. Will he add another trophy to his collection? If you’re a betting man and the match isn’t going to be rosy for the Madrid club, you know what your ticket should look like.
