Previously more or less an annual routine, now a spectacular event. Inter Milan will appear in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in a long time. A big part of that was the 35-year-old goal scorer Edin Džeko.

Last season, Inter Milan were dragged down by Romelu Lukaku, who was suitably complemented by Lautaro Martinez. But the former left for Chelsea in the summer, so his role was taken over by new arrival Edin Džeko.

The Sarajevo native struggled in Rome last season, clearly just needing a new environment, as he is already putting up almost better numbers in a Nerazzurri jersey than he did all of last season.

Then on Wednesday, he downed Shakhtar Donetsk with two goals, which will see Inter reach the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since the 2011/12 season, 10 years later.

Džeko is his team’s top scorer this season. He has scored 10 goals in 18 games, adding 3 assists.

“That’s why Inter signed me. I’m just trying to do my part,” the Bosnian marksman let it be heard after the important win.

The Inter Milan striker has already netted 50 goals in the Champions League. He has scored 3 for his current club. In his club and national team career, he has already scored 362 competitive goals.
