Double standards? UEFA wants to punish Germany for the rainbow tape. But why does it support kneeling?

Manuel Neuer decided to support the LGBT community by wearing a rainbow armband at the EURU. The reaction from UEFA was immediate, and they want to punish the German federation for this gesture. But then it makes no sense why UEFA supports kneeling before matches.

Manuel Neuer decided to make a gesture on behalf of the German national team in support of the LGBT community by wearing a rainbow armband to EURA matches. However, this seemingly subtle gesture immediately became a thorn in the side of UEFA’s management.

UEFA therefore wants to punish the German association for this gesture. Neuer violated a rule that forbids match officials from making any political gestures. But in that case, it lacks logic why UEFA encourages kneeling before matches.

When kneeling before matches, perhaps everyone associates this gesture with support for the Black Lives Matter movement, which has already caused much controversy in the world.

This leaves one to wonder why UEFA’s management is not bothered by support for the Black Lives Matter movement, while support for the LGBT community is.

At the same time, let us compare the two gestures. Neuer expressed his support by donning the captain’s armband in the colours of the LGBT community. On the surface, a fairly inconspicuous thing.

On the other hand, taking a knee before games is in the eyes of all fans and all players must take part. Unless they want to be subjected to huge criticism especially in the British Isles.

So why does UEFA have a double standard in these cases? Why does it not ban all political gestures, as it rightly should? Sport should remain sport, after all, without political views and gestures.
