Dortmund react to trophyless season and sack head coach

Borussia Dortmund have failed to compete with Bayern Munich this season and have failed to shine in the cup competitions. After a year, the head coach and his assistants were dismissed.
The Westphalian side remained below expectations last season. The arrival of coach Marco Rose injected new hope and energy into Dortmund, and at the beginning it didn’t look bad at all.
Gradually, however, the holes in the squad and the composition of the team began to show, the club was also plagued by a large number of injuries, or the absence of its biggest stars, and the star Erling Haaland, on whom Borussia relied so much, also missed out.
Dortmund finished second in the league but failed to shine in the domestic cup, let alone in Europe. And it was Rose, whom Borussia had poached from rivals Mönchengladbach a year ago, who had to put his head on the chopping block.
“After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we were forced to conclude that we had not reached our maximum in many areas,” chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke commented on the decision to sack Rose to the club’s website.
Rose was convinced that he was on the right track with the club despite the poor season: “But during our conversation I got the impression that 100% conviction does not exist among the other people responsible. That’s why we decided to end our cooperation together.”
Along with the German coach, his assistants are leaving the club. Dortmund have thanked him for his work and commitment over the past season.
Borussia will discuss the composition of the new coaching staff in the coming days.
