It’s been talked about for weeks, and now the deal is on the table. Australian golfer Cameron Smith will move to rival LIV Golf after the PGA Tour season ends. He will collect $100 million for signing the deal, which is probably more than he could ever earn on the American circuit.

The professional golf world is changing, rotating, these days you could say it is literally upside down. According to available, though still unconfirmed, information, recent champion of The Open Cameron Smith has struck a deal to join Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed golf franchise for at least $100 million.

The information was reported by the Telegraph website, after which the information immediately went around the world. The golfer himself refused to confirm this information, but he did not refute this intention earlier at a press conference in St. Andrews.

The official announcement is expected to be made after the FedEx Cup playoffs, which begin this Thursday in Memphis, Tennessee. In the official golf rankings, the Australian player is currently ranked second, and for LIV Golf, he is undoubtedly the biggest name they have managed to bring into the organization at the moment.

The amount for the said $100 million has reportedly already been agreed upon before The Open, which was held a month ago. Therefore, it is possible that the amount may be even a little higher at the moment.

Other sources claim that Cameron Smith will already participate in the next tournament of the LIV Golf Series, which will be held in Boston starting September 2, 2022. Smith is currently considered as one of the biggest favorites for the upcoming FedEx Cup.

Realistically, the Australian may go to a competitor at a time when he will dominate the world rankings and still win a season-long PGA Tour event.

The signing is seen by many fans as a definitive step towards the creation of a so-called “second golf world”. In the meantime, the first round of litigation between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has kicked off, which will prevent LIV Golf players from competing in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
