Borussia Dortmund won the prestigious Der Klassiker last time out in the 2019 German Super Cup, having enjoyed their last league edition of the competition a year earlier. It failed to break the unfavourable streak in the 10th round of the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich won on Saturday night thanks mainly to Harry Kane’s hat-trick, which reached an interesting record in the competition.
After just three minutes of play, the Bavarian big club opened the scoring. Dortmund’s defence failed to keep out Dayot Upamecan, who headed Sane’s corner into the net after a good run from close range.
Seven minutes later, Harry Kane increased Munich’s lead. The English cannonballer fired into a partially uncovered goal at the end of the action, as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel failed to reposition himself in the small area in time. Leroy Sané had another assist.
The same player received the first yellow card of the match in the 22nd minute for his foul. Borussia tried to react to the bad start, but Brandt’s shot from distance went over the crossbar.
In the 37th minute, Leon Goretzka tried acrobatically on the other side, but his scissors were not successful. The ball went wide of the three posts. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel was also shown a yellow card just before half-time.
The scoreline could have changed before the break. The home side had a great chance in the set-up, but Donyell Malen’s shot was just wide of Neuer’s goal. The teams went into the locker room with a 0:2 scoreline.
Second half
Before the start of the second half, the coach of the yellow and black team Edin Terzić decided to change the composition of the defensive line. Marius Wolf was replaced by Niklas Süle.
However, the visitors entered this part of the match better, but they did not score this time. Jamal Musiala was first tackled by Kobel and then the young offensive midfielder headed the ball into the net after an offside call, which was immediately waved away by the assistant referee.
In the 57th minute, Manuel Neuer had to intervene for the first time, as he was able to parry Reus’ shot. The Swiss goalkeeper made another difficult save soon after, against a dangerous finish by the active Sané.
The Dortmund players continued to try to turn the tide in the clash of Germany’s most successful clubs. 68. one minute brought a shot by Nmecha from the edge of the hexagon into the side netting.
However, it didn’t take long for Bayern to seal the three points. Musial’s shot was disallowed for offside, but Kane’s in the 73rd minute was. The 30-year-old Englishman received a pinpoint pass from Kingsley Coman in the penalty area and scored his fourteenth goal in his opening ten Bundesliga games quite easily. No one had done that before.
Kane also managed to complete his hat-trick in injury time and improve his fresh record by one more goal. This time he succeeded in the face of Kobel and expertly set the score at 0:4 for the home side.
Borussia Dortmund are now in fourth place in the league table after a heavy defeat. Bayern Munich are now the closest pursuers of Bayer Leverkusen, two points behind them.
