Ballon d’Or winner, five-time Champions League winner, Real Madrid legend. It was with this calling card that Karim Benzema left the European continent in the summer to join his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.
However, he will not be on the same team as Ronaldo. While the Portuguese has been with Al-Nasser since the beginning of the year, Benzema is donning the jersey of Al-Ittihad. He will, of course, be the biggest star in his team.
Along with Benzema, however, players like N’Golo Kante and Jota from Celtic in Scotland have arrived from Europe. As well as earning money, Benzema also enjoys the fact that as a Muslim he will experience life in a Muslim country.
And the new environment seems to suit him. Although it is too early to judge after one game, given the quality of Arab football, he nevertheless made an excellent debut in the Arab Champions Cup, helping Esperance Tunis to victory.
