Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’Or, Sir Alex Ferguson is clear. What is his reasoning?
The biggest favourites to win the Ballon d’Or are Jorginho, Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski. But Sir Alex Ferguson thinks that his “son” deserves the most valuable individual trophy in football.
The biggest favourites to win the Ballon d’Or are Jorginho, Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski. But Sir Alex Ferguson thinks that his “son” deserves the most valuable individual trophy in football.
The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced on 29 November and the legendary former Manchester United coach’s choice is clear! “Cristiano deserves it! He has broken one record after another this year,” he told Spanish newspaper Marca.
And we have to agree with his statement. Not only has he become the top scorer in the history of the Champions League, but he has also scored the most goals on the international stage, with the most starts for the national team. He has also created or pushed several other metrics.
He has made a great start to the current season as well, with 5 goals from 6 games in a Manchester United jersey. Moreover, they were often very important goals that meant points.
He has done well in the first half of this year too, but he has virtually no chance of winning the Ballon d’Or. Why? Because he hasn’t won any major trophies. That is a very important factor in choosing the best footballer.
In this respect, Jorginho is clearly the best, as he is considered the biggest favourite to win football’s most valuable individual trophy.
However, back to Ronaldo. Ferguson would surely love to see the Portuguese cannonballer equal Messi, who has one more Ballon d’Or.
Lionel Messi – 6x winner (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019), 5x 2nd place (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017), 1x 3rd place (2007)
Cristiano Ronaldo – 5x winner (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017), 6x 2nd place (2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2018), 1x 3rd place (2019)
Unlike Ronaldo, the Argentine magician is counted on in the top 3, but it’s not certain either, as the competition is really big! Apparently, neither will see the Ballon d’Or this year, but whether this is the end, or if one more of these geniuses will see this honour, we will see in the coming years.
