Conference league
Contrast of financial values of Conference League clubs or Giants, Viktoria Plzeň and midgets
The European Conference League enters its third year. From a Czech perspective, we will of course be watching Viktoria Plzeň. However, some famous clubs such as Anton Villa, Fiorentina or Lille, and on the other hand midgets such as KÍ Klaksvík and others have also entered the competition directly.
The Europa Conference League enters its third year. From a Czech perspective, we will of course be watching Viktoria Plzeň. However, some famous clubs such as Anton Villa, Fiorentina or Lille, and on the other hand midgets such as KÍ Klaksvík and others have also entered the competition directly.
It is safe to say that the sum of the clubs’ values will never be like the tip of the European iceberg that is the millionaire Champions League, rather it may be that some clubs may not even reach a value in excess of a million euros.
In the context of the competition’s viewership, we can all only hope that the value of the squads does not play a big role in the results and hopefully this year we will find a dark horse to fight against the big clubs with modest budgets but with all the more fired up footballers.
KÍ Klaksvík
The team from the Faroe Islands, who celebrated the title last season, started their European Cup journey in the Champions League preliminary round, but were knocked out by Sweden’s Molde.
The elimination meant a Europa League battle with Sherif Tiraspol. A home draw was a promising result for the rematch, but unfortunately the hot Moldovan soil suited the home team better, and Klaksvík were once again relegated, this time straight into the Conference League group.
The value of the squad is €2.9 million (€93,000 per player), which means that this is the team with the lowest value in the entire competition. The most expensive players are captain Jákup Andreasen and Hallur Hansson, who are worth 300 thousand euros and both represent the Faroe Islands.
Viktoria Plzeň
How does the Czech representative compare to the rest of the competition? The position of the West Bohemian club can be described as a quiet middle ground. It is in eighteenth place with a value of 28.58 million euros (1.06 million euros per player). Viktoria has left behind neighbours Slovan Bratislava and Spartak Trnava, with Norway’s FK Bodø/Glimt, the conqueror of Bohemians 1905, just ahead.
Anyone who follows Czech football can probably correctly guess who is the most valuable player at the club. Yes, it is goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk, who has been speculated several times as an aspirant for a foreign transfer, but the time is still not right.
On the other hand, the cheapest player in Viktoria’s squad is still a youth player Jan Paluska with a value of 25 thousand euros.
Aston Villa
The English team, which had to go through one pre-season against Scottish Hibernian (final score 8: 0) is at the top of the ranking. The value of the club has climbed to 607.70 million euros (22.51 million euros per player). The amount is almost three times higher than the second club in the ranking, which is the Italian Fiorentina.
An interesting indicator is the fact that with this value Aston Villa would be ranked second behind Liverpool in the Europa League, then in the Champions League their value would be in the top ten of the ranking, so it is incredible that they play only the third European competition in the ranking.
The most valuable player is new signing Moussa Diaby with a price tag of 50 million euros. Interestingly, we don’t find the most expensive player in the whole competition in Aston Villa’s squad, that is Jonathan David from Lille with a price tag 10 million higher.
