Dean Smith was sacked from Aston Villa eight days ago after disappointing results, but he has already found a new employer. He’s moving to Norwich.

The search for a new Norwich coach is over. In the last stage of negotiations, the Canaries’ management was deciding between two candidates – Frank Lampard and Dean Smith. It was the latter who eventually won the battle and became the club’s new manager.

Eight days ago, Dean Smith reigned on the bench of Aston Villa, where his neck was finally broken by a series of unconvincing results (five defeats in a row) and only 16th place in the table.

“It has been a turbulent seven days, but I am delighted to be back in the Premier League and on the Norwich bench, ” Smith told the club’s website.

“My job is to build on the great work of the previous management team and try to stay in the league at all costs. Norwich is a big club with a great fan base. Together with the fans and players we will try to make Carrow Road a fortress and make the visit of all opponents as unpleasant as possible, ” added the 50-year-old coach.

It remains to be seen how successful Smith will be and whether he and Norwich will actually achieve their goal of saving themselves in the top tier of island football.
