After seven very difficult months in the Dane’s life, his weeks-awaited return to the Premier League is coming. His dream of attending the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year is still alive. Which team will Eriksen eventually sign with?
It all started the moment the 29-year-old Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the Denmark-Finland match at Euro 2020. Even this serious problem did not deter the Dane from his love for football. A heart defibrillator operation and a long recovery followed.
After successfully completing all medical examinations and tests, the doctors gave Eriksen permission to start training and doing his beloved sport again. But another significant problem is that the rules of most top European competitions prohibit playing with a defibrillator.
As a result, his current employer, Inter Milan of Italy, had to terminate his contract last month. This left Eriksen with no choice but to look for a new employer. In England, the rules are a little more relaxed.
Players here are free to decide whether they want to play with a defibrillator or not. The Dane is determined to continue his successful professional career. Moreover, he let it be known some time ago that he would like to fight for a place in the Danish squad for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Long-time newcomer Brentford was very interested in his services. Now his transfer is officially confirmed. Before signing his contract, Eriksen trained in Switzerland and then trained with his former club Ajax Amsterdam.
Brentford currently have three Danish names in the first team, besides head coach Thomas Frank, Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen also play there. The central midfielder will return to the Premier League after spending two years in Italy.
Before that, he played six years for Tottenham, for whom he scored 51 goals and set up 62 goals in 226 games, making him one of the most successful passers in Premier League history.
