The academy in Cobham is undoubtedly one of the best in England, and a lot of top players have been brought up here. Some of them literally skyrocketed last season, either directly at Chelsea or at another club. Here’s a list of the best.
Tino Livramento
Still only nineteen years old, the right-back left Chelsea last summer when he moved to Southampton for just under €6 million. He broke into the Saints squad almost immediately, scoring his debut goal and assist. Thanks to his honest performances, he also got a look in the U21 national team.
Conor Gallagher
The central midfielder won the admiration of many fans at the start of the season when he scored 2 goals for the Hammers. He has maintained consistently good performances throughout the season and it is clear that he should get a chance in the Chelsea first team in preparation. He already looked good last season at West Bromwich, but this season he spiced up his great performances with a decent 8+3 stats. In November, he also looked for the senior national team.
Marc Guéhi
Conor’s teammate has strengthened the defensive ranks of Vieira’s Crystal Palace, who bought him from Chelsea for €23 million in the summer. He missed only two games in the Premier League and added to his excellent defensive performances with two goals. He received an invitation to the national team in March.
Armando Broja
The lanky striker with Albanian roots has scored 6 goals on loan at Southampton and Tuchel is expected to give him a chance in preparation. He is still only 20 years old but there is speculation that he could replace Romelu Lukaku, whose move to south-west London hasn’t worked out so well.
Levi Colwill
An unfortunate own goal decided Nottingham’s promotion to the Premier League, yet he held the Huddersfield defence together with Tom Lees for almost the entire season. With the departures of Rüdiger, Christensen and maybe even Azpilicueta, he could get a chance in the A-team.
Trevoh Chalobah
Managed to score on his Super Cup debut against Villarreal, he has shown his good shot a few more times during the season. He made a few mistakes but often helped the team a lot. Given the current situation at Chelsea, he should get even more chances next season. He can also play as a defensive midfielder.
There are a lot of other talented players in Chelsea’s academy who are worth mentioning such as Jude Soonsup-Bell, Tino Anjorin or Dujon Sterling. Players like Mason Mount or Reece James have shone in previous seasons, so they are not included here.
