Football fans in Saudi Arabia must be enjoying a period of bliss. Cristiano Ronaldo moved to the top flight in the winter, followed by more and more stars. In the summer, stars like Karim Benzema and Ruben Neves headed in that direction.

London Chelsea have also released a trio of footballers to this country. N’Golo Kanté headed to Al-Ittihad after his contract expired, while defender Kalidou Koulibaly moved to Al-Hilal for €23 million.

The latest name to head towards Saudi Arabia is Edouard Mendy. The thirty-one-year-old goalkeeper with a fairytale story is moving to Al-Ahli for €16 million.

To make matters worse, Hakim Ziyech is expected to complete Ronald Al-Nassr’s line-up for a change.

But back to the Senegalese goalkeeper. A few years ago, it looked like he had no chance in professional football. He started the 2017/18 season in the French second division in the jersey of Reims, where he picked up promotion, only to head to Rennes after his first first first league experience.

Performances at Rennes earned him a move to the Premier League. Chelsea bought him for €24 million, apparently not knowing themselves how crucial the transfer would be. Indeed, in his first season in the Isles he showed great potential and became a key figure for the Blues.

He won the Champions League with the team, keeping nine clean sheets and scoring three goals in twelve games. He also kept zero in the final against Manchester City. In addition, he won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea. He was named the best footballer in Africa for 2021.

In addition, he also made the Senegal national team, with which he became African champion, another great achievement for the collection. His second season at Chelsea was also a solid one, but in the third one he lost his place in the starting line-up and now he is moving to a new destination.
