Daniel Podence had the first chance of the game in the fourth minute, but his attempt was blocked by Thiago Silva. An active start by the home side led to the opening goal, but after consulting VAR the head referee disallowed it for offside.
Four minutes later, Edouard Mendy had to turn away a dangerous cross from Raúl Jimenez. Chelsea did not respond until the 29th minute when Mason Mount’s shot was blocked by the Wolverhampton defence.
Mendy’s superb save against Leander Dendoncker’s header closed the first half and the match was scoreless.
After the change of sides, Saúl Niguez came on for Chalobah and Chelsea began to dominate.
However, all of the visitors’ actions ended in front of the whitewash. Either due to inaccuracy or offside. It wasn’t until the 77th minute that N’golo Kanté snuck into the box and his attempt had to be blocked by Romain Sais.
A minute later, the home goalkeeper intervened against a shot by Christian Pulisic. The end of the match didn’t offer much more interesting and the match ended 0:0.
