Chelsea broke a six-match winless streak on Saturday, but they also struggled to win 1-0 against a struggling Leeds side. They are still tenth in the table and are already 11 points behind the Top 4, which guarantees the Champions League.
Dortmund, on the other hand, have been 100% since the World Cup in Qatar, winning their last 11 competitive matches. Last time they beat RB Leipzig and cut them out of the title fight, Borussia are currently second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich on points.
Chelsea’s key figures
Finding mainstays with the Blues’ current form is difficult indeed. Healed summer signing Wesley Fofana shone with a goal at the weekend, while Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga holds a relatively solid defensive line.
Dortmund’s key figures
Healed captain and home legend Marco Reus has scored five times and assisted six times so far. Fellow midfielder and German international Julian Brandt is on nine goals and five assists and excelled at home against Chelsea.
Prediction
Not many goals are falling in Chelsea’s games. The defence works relatively well, but the attack not at all. In the last eight matches of the Blues, there have been no more than two goals each time, and overall, the least goals are falling in the league matches of the London team (score 24::25).
Against Dortmund, Chelsea’s floundering attack will have a tough time. Borussia have only conceded five goals in their last nine games, conceding zero four times. With 28 goals scored, they have the third best defensive record in the Bundesliga.
Given Borussia’s excellent defensive performance, the Blues’ struggling attack and the fact that Dortmund have nowhere to go, I think a maximum of two goals will fall in normal time.
