Chelsea stiffens the defence! Axel Disasi arrives in London to strengthen the French legion of stoppers
If Axel Disasi passes his medical at Chelsea, he will become the third French stopper at Stamford Bridge to be available to coach Mauricio Pochettino for the new season.
If Axel Disasi passes his medical at Chelsea, he will become the third French stopper at Stamford Bridge to be available to coach Mauricio Pochettino for the new season.
It has been really busy at Stamford Bridge in recent transfer seasons and it seems that it will be for a while. In fact, Chelsea will be reinforced by stopper Axel Disasi, who will reunite with his former teammate Benoit Badiashil, with whom he worked from Monaco.
Moreover, if Pochettino decides to play three stoppers, we could see a purely French trio as Wesley Fofana is also at Chelsea.
The Blues have also brought in the talented Levi Colville from the U21s. To all of them, the already 38-year-old Thiago Silva will pass on the experience. And to make the list of stoppers complete, it certainly serves to mention a pair of 24-year-olds, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr.
The transfer fee, according to Fabrizio Romano, will be up to 45 million euros. This will probably be the first big infusion of funds into the club’s coffers for Monaco. So far it has only collected 6 million euros for Jean Lucas.
If there is one thing Chelsea will really have an advantage in, it will be in the air, as Badiashile is 194 cm, Fofana 186 cm and Disasi 190 cm. And given the relatively short stature of the other teammates, that certainly fits!
Disasi himself is then an extremely strong player, but on the other hand, of course, he loses in speed. But there are others at Stamford Bridge who excel in this respect.
It is the composition of the stopper duo or trio that will certainly be very interesting to watch, as Pochettino now has a difficult task ahead of him that his predecessors were unable to accomplish – to put together a functioning team from individuals.
