Offensive midfielder Hakim Ziyech ends his national team career after disputes with Morocco’s national team coach! The 28-year-old Chelsea player can now concentrate only on club football.
The rift between player and coach dates back to last June, when Ziyech did not travel to Morocco’s friendlies due to an alleged injury.
Notably, the communication dispute reached a stage where Vahid Halilhodzic did not nominate the player for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Bosnian coach also does not count on the player for the barrage for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which Morocco will play against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The situation has thus come to an (un)expected end.
“I will not return to the national team. This is my final decision,” Ziyech told reporters. “I will concentrate on my work at the club,” added the native of Dronten, the Netherlands.
Ziyech has defended the colours of his native Netherlands in the youth categories, but in senior football he has donned the colours of Morocco, the country of his ancestors. He scored 40 games, 17 goals and 10 assists for the African country.
