Swiss millionaire Hansjorg Wyss has boasted that he has been approached by Russian Roman Abramovich, who has offered to sell him Chelsea FC. He has reportedly sent out offers to multiple people or groups as he seems to be in a hurry to sell the club.
Roman Abramovich, the current owner of Chelsea, has come under pressure after the situation between Russia and Ukraine deteriorated over the past week. He fears that sanctions may come from the British government. Out of this concern, he decided to act quickly.
So far, Abramovich has proceeded by stepping down from the top job for a while, which he has lent to people he trusts at his club who already held senior positions. Petr Cech, who had previously been a catcher at the club and now held the position of sporting director, also moved into a senior position.
Roman Abramovich is very close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Like most oligarchs who operate in countries other than Russia, he is concerned about his wealth. As well as selling Chelsea, he is also selling his houses and villas in England.
Who is the Swiss businessman who can buy Chelsea? Hansjorg Wyss lives in the US and made his fortune by being one of the founders of Synthes USA, a medical materials company. He is one of the world’s greatest philanthropists. He is currently 86 years old.
Wyss is very interested in buying the London big club, but he thinks Abramovich is asking too much money for him. The Swiss is aware that Chelsea do not have a large amount of funds at their disposal, so he expects the asking price to gradually decrease.
Once there is a reduction in the price tag, Wyss’ interest would increase even more. He would then plan to contact a few other investors and make a formal offer. The newly formed consortium would consist of six to eight investors.
