Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano, will not wait for anything and will activate the buyout clause of Nicolas Jackson, from whom they will expect a regular flow of goals. Will the La Liga comet of recent months succeed where many others have burned out?
Before the season, Villarreal decided to move Jackson to the A-team and it was definitely a great move. The Senegalese striker struggled at first and then came the injuries. However, after returning to the pitch, he quickly got into a fantastic form, scoring 9 goals out of 12 in his last 8 league games.
Thanks to this, Villarreal eventually climbed to 5th place, as only Atlético Madrid, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid have scored more points in the last 10 league rounds.
It is therefore no surprise that a number of big clubs are circling around the Senegalese striker, led by Chelsea, who, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, are preparing to activate a €35 million buyout clause.
Allegedly, the London club was about to strike a different deal with Villarreal, having prepared as many as 3 options, with the priority being to offer the other side some of the players the Blues will be getting rid of this summer.
Only, the situation is apparently such that action needs to be taken immediately before anyone is quicker. Less than 40 million euros for a striker with such potential is a great deal indeed.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have a number of players in attack including talents like Armando Broja and David Fofana, so it will be interesting to see who Mauricio Pochettino opts for in his new role.
Does Jackson already have the Premier League?
The Senegalese striker is clearly a player with a lot of potential who has had a good end to the season, but there is no more to say and only time will test him. But there are plenty of those at Stamford Bridge and the Argentine coach has a big challenge ahead of him.
Jackson looks a lot like Tammy Abraham, who Chelsea sold to AS Roma in the summer of 2021. However, as mentioned above, €35 million is definitely an acceptable amount for the risk of this transfer not going through. Compared to some recent signings, clearly.
The skilful striker, who has already made his debut for the Senegalese national team, has a big challenge ahead of him, with many other strikers having failed in London before him. However, Jackson has all the ingredients to succeed, but it will depend on how it fits the team as a whole.
