Chance for Dostal in Anaheim? Star Gibson asked for a trade, says he doesn’t want to catch a game for the Ducks
As is often the case in sports, sometimes you need a teammate who is ahead of you in the hierarchy to have a chance. That could happen now with Lukas Dostal, who is awaiting a bigger chance in Anaheim. It could come after the departure of number one John Gibson, who asked for a trade.

Lukas Dostal’s position in Anaheim is getting stronger every game. He made his debut last season and played 4 games, finishing the year with a bronze at the World Championships.
In the last one, the 23-year-old goalie knew he wanted to fight more for a position among the elite. In addition to 30 games on the farm, he managed to play 19 NHL games with a 90.13% save percentage.
There was quite a lot of praise for his performance and it was clear that he would want to add even more starts from next season. And at the moment, he may have an opportunity to lift the number of games considerably.
Ducks number one John Gibson has asked for a trade, according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli. He’s even reportedly let it be known that he doesn’t want to play another game for Anaheim.
This is the second time the 29-year-old goalie has asked to leave Anaheim. He played 53 games last season with an 89.91% save percentage.
In addition, Tomas Suchanek, another promising Czech goaltender who shined at last year’s World Junior Championship, was invited to Anaheim’s development camp. A bit surprisingly, he wasn’t drafted, but he got his chance.
If he can catch on with the Ducks and Dostál earns the number one position, we might see a Czech goaltending duo in the future, which would be a great advertisement for the Czech goaltending school.
