Champions League final in the USA? Čeferin is open to the possibility of taking the most famous club competition outside Europe

What in the past seemed at the very least unlikely to become a reality in the coming years. Indeed, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has opened the door to the possibility of Champions League matches being played on US soil. And that includes the final.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has come out with an interesting claim in the last few dozen hours. Because the big news in the future could be that Europe’s most prestigious club competition could be played outside Europe.
And that includes the finals. According to the Slovenian UEFA leader, this is said to be an interesting idea as the Champions League would expand to the United States. This would help to exploit the North American market, according to Čeferin.
Recall that the final of the current edition of the Champions League will be played in Istanbul, in 2024 in London and in 2025 in Munich. No venue has yet been selected for the 2026 edition.
Čeferin made the statement on the American Men in Blazers podcast, saying that Americans are prepared to pay for the best.
“It is possible. We’ve already discussed it, but then there was the World Cup, there will be the Euros in 2024. This year there will be the final in Istanbul, in 2024 in London and 2025 in Munich, then we’ll see,” Čeferin said in the aforementioned podcast.
However, as various European media have already pointed out, this would also be a violation of almost 70 years of tradition. Since the inception of the Champions League, or its predecessor PMEZ in 1955, its matches have never been held outside of European territory.
“The Americans are prepared to pay for the best. So they will watch European football, just as basketball lovers in Europe watch the NBA,” Čeferin continued.
“I was shocked that more people in the US watched the European Championship final than the NBA final. Thirty games of the Euros had a viewership like the Super Bowl,” he concluded.
