It was already apparent last week that there was going to be some form of earthquake at Chelsea. The reason is simple. New owner Todd Boehly is restructuring and there has been talk about Petr Cech’s position. The latter has decided to leave the club.
Petr Cech is one of Chelsea’s greatest legends and will undoubtedly remain a legend of the Premier League, where he has had excellent statistics and even reigns supreme in some. He has spent the last three years in charge of the club under the wing of Roman Abramovich.
However, the Abramovich era is now history and Chelsea is owned by American businessman Todd Boehly. Along with the change of ownership comes a restructuring that has seen popular director Marina Granovskaiawa, for example, fall victim to it.
Granovskaiava was awarded as the best female director in European football back in 2021. The problem for Boehly, however, was that the structure in Chelsea’s boardroom was somewhat atypical.
The club lacked a typical sporting director who would be in charge of the concept and transfers. The transfers were overseen to a certain extent by Petr Cech, but he is also leaving the club. Last week there were already speculations about his position, now everything is certain.
Boehly was interested in the continuation of Cech at Chelsea, however, he wanted him to have one and specific position. At the Blues, he had the role of technical and performance advisor.
“It has been a great privilege for me to be in charge of Chelsea for the last three years. I feel now that the club has new owners, the time is right for me to leave. I am delighted that the club is now in a great position with new owners. I believe in its future success on and off the pitch,” Cech told the club’s website.
Boehly stated that Cech is a very important member of Chelsea. Besides, he said he understands his decision to leave. “We thank him for his work and commitment to the club and our community. We wish him nothing but the best,” he added.
