A few days after losing Danny Ings, Southampton have secured the services of twenty-four-year-old bombardier Adam Armstrong from Blackburn Rovers. The English striker scored 29 goals last season and was the Championship’s second top scorer after Ivan Toney.
Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings has brilliantly dusted off his career in a Southampton jersey and has been regarded as one of England’s best strikers in recent seasons. The Saints are utterly dependent on his goals as well as his performances.
Now, however, Southampton have lost their cannonballer. The twenty-nine-year-old striker has signed for Aston Villa, who are up in arms for the new season after losing captain Grealish. Ings cost Aston Villa €35 million.
The ideal replacement for Ings would be Adam Armstrong. The 24-year-old striker and Newcastle offspring made his biggest name in recent years at Blackburn, where he scored a fine 64 goals in 160 games.
Armstrong has signed for the Saints until 2025, with Southampton paying almost €18m for him. For now, their transfer window is not interesting. Frenchman Romain Perraud has arrived from Stade Brest as a replacement for left-back Betrand. Bertrand signed for Leicester City for free.
Another signing is Chelsea midfielder Valentino Livramento, 18. Southampton paid almost 6 million euros for him. Livramento will join the reserve team for the time being, but we will definitely see him in the A-team during the season.
The last two signings are Theo Walcott, who signed for the Saints for free, and Armando Broja. The 19-year-old Chelsea tribal player arrives on a one-year loan deal and is expected to help fill the gap in the attacking line created by the departure of Danny Ings.
