Can splendid Spurs become Kings of England and win the Premier League?
It’s looking rather dreamy so far and definitely not Spursy. Ange-ball is flowing goals and fans of the much-maligned North London sleeping giants Tottenham Hotspur are rubbing their eyes in disbelief. Can they do the impossible and lift the famous Premier League trophy?
Top of the table currently and tied with old rivals Arsenal, the 2023-24 season is showing the world that perhaps this is the year when trophy-grabbers Manchester City aren’t quite the force they once were.
With a strong defence and an exciting goalkeeper in Italian Guglielmo Vicario pulling off mighty saves when the team needs him most, all the signs are there that this is a different Spurs side made of stronger stuff.
Let down in previous years by a lack of fight and average leadership, there is something rather exciting about being a Tottenham fan right now. There is so much determination. This looks like a team who genuinely like each other. There is grit in droves and even opposition fans can feel it.
The lucky draw against Liverpool and the celebrations afterwards signify a change that is hugely welcome for a long-suffering fanbase. Something extraordinary is brewing and the self-belief is a sight to behold.
Three London derbies are up next. On paper, there should be 3 wins but we all know that these games are rather different to most. Fulham at home on Monday 23rd of October start off proceedings with a tricky tie against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park Stadium next, with an all-time clash against youthful Chelsea to come.
With their best start to a Premier League season ever, the leadership of lead striker Son Heung-min must be applauded. His connection with new signing James Maddison is special and it seems that only further injuries can stop this season from reaching unfathomable heights.
If Ange Postecoglou and his gritty Spurs players can pull this off, they will be legends forever and join the historic 1960-61 and 1950-51 teams in the trophy cabinet.
