Italy is looking for a spectacular duel. On Tuesday night, Napoli and AC Milan will face off for the second time in the Champions League semi-finals. The Rossoneri are in the lead, the Partenopei have a lot to make up at home. And the fans wanted to help, too, by giving the opposing stars a busy night.
AC Milan managed to beat Napoli 1-0 at the San Siro in the first Champions League quarter-final match, but would they have been better in the match? No. Even at a numerical disadvantage, the Partenopei were the more dangerous team on the set.
The Rossoneri relied mainly on breakaways and managed to strike from one. After the match, the performance of the referee was addressed, who was punished and will not write again in this season of the millionaire competition. Napoli fans have even filed a class action lawsuit, demanding €150 million in compensation.
Then, as far as the fans of the team from under Vesuvius are concerned, there has been a lot of disunity. For they have been protesting against Napoli boss Aurelio De Laurentiis for a long time. However, he has met with them and all sides say that they will stick together from now on.
In quite possibly the most successful season in the club’s history, this is understandably needed. Napoli are already likely to secure first place in the Italian league, but they can still succeed in the Champions League as well. But it needs to beat AC Milan on Tuesday night.
And the fans have decided to try and help the players. They took to the streets the night before the game, specifically in front of the hotel where the Milan stars were staying. The goal was clear. Not to let the opposing players get a good night’s sleep.
So they sang chants outside the hotel, set off fireworks and also honked their cars. It’s not as if Naples was dead.
However, the question is what effect it will have. We’ll only find out during or after the game. Napoli fans are announced, the Milan club could certainly count on it. For the AC players, it could be an extra motivation.
