Bundesliga teams’ performances: young Dortmund without Sancho have little chance of winning the title

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to prevent Bayern Munich from winning a tenth consecutive title this season. However, Tuesday’s Super Cup match (1::3) gave a hint of just how difficult the task will be. What to expect from Dortmund this year?

We were used to Dortmund finishing second in the German league year after year behind the sovereign Bayern, but last year was different. The Yellow and Black only secured their place in the Top 4, hence the Champions League, after the penultimate round.

It’s no wonder that a number of big clubs are interested in Haaland. Chelsea were eyeing him, but London’s Champions League champions eventually chose Romelu Lukaku, and there was also speculation about Real Madrid and Manchester United.

But Dortmund have no reason to get rid of their biggest star, as the club’s coffers got rich by selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United for €85 million. It made seventeen million on three other players.

Instead of Sancho, Donyell Malen, who was scouted by coach Marco Rose at PSV in the Netherlands, should be in the squad. He is primarily a top striker, but he can also play on both wings.

Sixteen-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko will get more and more space, he got a chance in the starting line-up in the German Super Cup on Tuesday. The presence of Marc Reus confirms that the attack is the biggest weapon of the attack.

The parade of talented footballers continues in midfield, where Giovanni Reyna and Jude Bellingham (both 18 years old), as well as Thomas Delaney, Emre Can and Axel Witsel are regulars. The management has a lot to choose from here as well.

But the same cannot be said about the defence. The only truly above-standard defender is Mats Hummels, the rest are either inexperienced youngsters or players without the ability to perform consistently. A beautiful example of the first group was the miserable performance of Felix Passlack against Bayern.

Although there are a few talents in the squad who may one day be the best at their position, the departure of Sancho from at least the start of the season will be noticeable. He was the one who set up the most Borussia goals with assists in the last three years.

I expect an offensive concept of the game and for the impartial spectator a great spectacle, simply a lot of goals scored and conceded. And again a battle with Leipzig for second place.
