Bundesliga teams’ performances: Bayern’s toughest season in years, loss of Lewandowski will be felt
Bayern Munich had won 10 titles in a row and it was almost beginning to look like their dominance would never end. However, before the new season there were some interesting changes in the team, and the competitors did not weaken too much, quite the opposite. What to expect from the Bavarian giant this season?
Bayern Munich had won 10 titles in a row and it was almost beginning to look like their dominance would never end. However, before the new season there were some interesting changes in the team, and the competitors did not weaken too much, quite the opposite. What to expect from the Bavarian giant this season?
The management team
Last season, Bayern won a single trophy when they dominated the Bundesliga. It did not make a dent in the Champions League or the domestic cup. Still, there were no changes in the implementation team. The coach is still the young Julian Nagelsmann, who has kept the same assistants.
Goalkeeper
A position that Bayern hasn’t had to deal with for several years now. Manuel Neuer is healthy and is still one of the world’s best. He is also a great leader and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be number one.
Sven Ulreich, who can always surprise Neuer, is ready for the number two position again. 19-year-old Johannes Schenk will also be waiting for his chance.
Defence
However, there have been a few changes in the defence. Niklas Süle has left the club for Borussia Dortmund for free. In his place, however, the younger and more promising Matthijs de Ligt has arrived.
Bayern also have Dayot Upamecan at fullback, Lucas Hernández, who will play on the left flank, and Benjamin Pavard, who will play on the right flank for a change. It is possible that Bayern will also use a three-stopper formation. The 20-year-old Tanguy Nianzou could start to get more space this season.
If there’s one thing that Bayern have been struggling with, it’s the right-back position. Pavard played well there, but it’s not his position. Now Noussair Mazraoui, who made a great name for himself at Ajax, will take that spot. On the left, when healthy, we’ll have Alphonso Davies on the left.
Backup
The centre of midfield will once again be well manned by Bayern. Corentin Tolisso has left, but he did not play first team. In addition, the talented Ryan Gravenberch has arrived. The backbone, however, will be Joshua Kimmich, who will be supplemented by Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer depending on his performance and health.
There is simply no shortage of quality here. As well as in the offensive line, which will be as variable as possible. Jamal Musila, who has already shown his greatness in the Super Cup with Leipzig, can be expected to be an important part of the team in the new season. The offensive midfielder cannot be anyone else. Thomas Müller is at most a possibility.
As for the wings, there is a lot to look forward to. Bayern have Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Müller is very versatile and we have to include him here as well. In addition, Sadio Mané has joined the team, but he will probably play mainly on the spearhead.
Attack
It will be very interesting to see how Bayern will perform on the spearhead. The sharpshooter Robert Lewandowski has left and there is no other player in the team who will be able to score over 40 goals in a season.
We can therefore expect Bayern to be much less legible. Sadio Mané will probably be the main man at the top, and he will be complemented by Serge Gnabry, who is used to this position from the national team.
All of the aforementioned will have to contribute their share of goals. Lewandowski’s contribution will be sorely missed by Bayern. While the team is shaping up to be great, there hasn’t been as high a chance to dethrone the Bavarian giant as there will be in the new season for a long time. Still, Bayern can be expected to defend the title. However, it will be close.
The ideal line-up

Mazraoui – de Ligt – Hernández – Davies
Kimmich – Goretzka
Müller – Musiala – Gnabry
