Brighton managed the match of the 24th round of the Premier League and responded to the 0:4 debacle against Luton with a similar cannonade. They beat Crystal Palace 4-1 in the M23 derby, with the game decided after 40 minutes. The Seagulls jumped to seventh place in the table.

Brighton put the Luton debacle behind them and went ahead in the third minute, Lewis Dunk’s header following a corner.

At the other end Jeffrey Schlupp tried his luck, but the home goalkeeper had an easy job and intervened. In the 24th minute, Facundo Buonanotte was angry for the home side, this time he didn’t challenge Dean Henderson. Injured captain Marc Guéhi then had to come on for the away side.

And in the 33rd minute, a disorganized Eagles defense cashed in for the second time, with Jack Hinshelwood heading in from the back post. And straight from a set piece, the visitors cashed in again, with another youngster – Argentina’s Buonanotte – heading to the left post from just outside the box.

After a great first half, Brighton took the lead

On the away side, perhaps only Schlupp tried, but his next effort ended up only in the middle of the goal. With Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Jefferson Lerma also failing to score, the Eagles went into the booths three goals down.

The absence of offensive players Eberechi Eze and Michael Olis was extremely noticeable. The latter came on right after the change of sides, but it didn’t have an immediate impact. Brighton were more dangerous, although they didn’t need to attack.

Moreover, Olise went off again in the 56th minute due to injury. Nevertheless, the Eagles did not give up and reduced the deficit thanks to compatriot Jean-Philippe Matta. The French hitman struck with his head and reduced the score to 1: 3.

But Crystal Palace’s activity did not lead to any real danger, on the other hand, Joao Pedro put an end to the visitors’ hopes. Brighton then played the game with experience, didn’t let their opponents do anything and booked a 4: 1 victory.

The Seagulls are already seventh in the table, while Crystal Palace’s lead on the relegation zone is only five points.
