Brazilian Football Federation asks FIFA to block players that 5 Premier League clubs refused to release
Premier League without Brazilians? Looks like at least some of them will now be banned by FIFA. Clubs that didn’t want to allow Brazilians to represent their country due to quarantine measures will probably lose the ability to field these players.
Premier League without Brazilians? Looks like at least some of them will now be banned by FIFA. Clubs that didn’t want to allow Brazilians to represent their country due to quarantine measures will likely lose the ability to deploy these players between September 10-14.
FIFA has blocked the selection of players to clubs that have not allowed them to represent their country. This will apply to the upcoming Premier League round and Tuesday’s Champions League matches.
It will therefore mean that Thiago Silva and Fred will not be able to hit the field for Tuesday’s matches in the new edition of the Champions League.
Under FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, a breach of these sanctions would not only result in a fine but also a match suspension.
However, it is uncertain what would happen if the Leeds and Liverpool coaches used suspended players in a mutual duel.
Which clubs and players are affected?
It could be as many as 5 teams who did not want to let their wards go to the qualifying matches against Peru and Argentina. Specifically:
Leeds:: Raphinha
Manchester United:: Fred
Chelsea:: Thiago Silva
Manchester City:: Ederson, Gabriel Jesus
Liverpool:: Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino
Only Richarlison should be released from the starting ban, due to the good relations between the Brazilian federation and the club itself.
