Borussia Dortmund suffered a heavy defeat to Ajax in an important Champions League match on Tuesday. And now, on top of that, it came with the unpleasant news that its key striker Erling Haaland will be out for several weeks.
The Norwegian striker on loan at Dortmund only recently returned after missing out due to a muscle injury. He has played two games and will now miss again.
This was confirmed at the press conference by Marco Rose, who was also asked about the health of the other players facing this weekend’s game against Bielefeld.
“Thomas Meunier will not be able to play, Nico Schulz has a torn muscle. Erling Haaland will not be able to play either. His absence from the pitch will last several weeks. He injured his hip. But he will be back soon and even stronger than we know him,” the Dortmund coach commented on the condition of the Norwegian sniper.
We don’t know exactly how long Haaland will miss Dortmund, but we do know that his rehabilitation program is already underway. “It’s time to focus on his recovery. I will come back even stronger!”
If we look at the next few games that Dortmund have to face, these are opponents that they should be able to cope with without their star striker. Borussia Dortmund’s next three games are against Bielefeld, Ingolstadt and Cologne.
After that, it’s a rematch against Ajax in the Champions League. The Dutch side won the previous match 4:0 and moved into first place, while Borussia are currently in second place. However, Haaland will most likely miss this match as well. He will probably miss the next match against RB Leipzig as well.
After the national break at the end of November and the beginning of December, Dortmund will have two tough league games. The first against Wolfsburg and the second against Bayern Munich. And it is for these two duels that Rose would like to see Haaland on the pitch in full form already!
