The images of the rampage of fans and police in Paris before the Champions League final match shocked the football and non-football world. According to the former French education minister, Karim Benzema was to blame for the pre-match chaos.

Footage of police clashing with fan groups ahead of the LM final has gone around the world

The Champions League final was supposed to be a celebration of European football, but it brought a certain blemish on the footballing beauty. The chaos of unauthorised fans entering the stadium at Princes Park cast a dark shadow over the host country and Uefa itself.

In particular, footage of clashes with the police, who used tear gas on Liverpool fans, has gone around the world. Especially when the fans in question included fans with valid tickets and children.

When such a major organisational failure occurs, it is obvious that answers are being sought. Instead of self-critical analysis, however, it is often the case that the culprits are found among those who have little to do with the situation.

The former French education minister blamed Karim Benzema

Probably the most bizarre reason for the behaviour of the fan groups who climbed over the stadium gates and tried to enter the match with forged tickets came from former French education minister Luc Ferry. He blamed the unprecedented chaos on Real Madrid canon Karim Benzema.

“The police say it’s the organisation’s fault, UEFA logically say the opposite,” Ferry began his assessment of the incident , according to Spanish daily MARCA. “I’m not a specialist in this, but what really shocks me is the sport is rotten because of the money and the players it celebrates,” he surprised a reporter who asked for an explanation of his comment.

“If Benzema is only sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence for attempted extortion and then we award him the Ballon d’Or, what message are we going to send to these crazy fans,” he said in response to the fact that Karim Benzema is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year, awarded by French sports magazine France Football.

“We are actually saying that there is no justice, there are no police and there are no rules when you are a football star, ” he said, referring to the sex tape scandal and the case of the blackmail of teammate Valbuena by Karim Benzema.

The young talent Aurélien Tchouaméni defended his national teammate and possibly future Real Madrid teammate. The Monaco midfielder shared the minister’s comment on Twitter and wrote Is this video serious?”
