Real Madrid welcomed Almería, fighting for salvation in Spain’s top football competition, to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in the 32nd round of La Liga. Carlo Ancelotti’s team were eleven points behind rivals Barcelona ahead of the home game in the chase for the Spanish throne.
With just six games left in the league season, Los Blancos are already virtually out of the title race, having been unable to take advantage of the Catalan big club’s less than dazzling form themselves. He scored three goals in just 42 minutes against Almeria to confirm his return to elite form. First, he twice took advantage of great individual actions by Brazilians Vinícius and Rodrygo. Then, three minutes before the end of the first half, he converted a penalty kick to complete his hat-trick.
He contributed significantly to his team’s 4:2 victory and scored his third hat-trick this month.
It was his seventeenth goal in twenty games in La Liga. He is now only two goals behind Poland’s Lewandowski.
The Polish striker hit the net for Betis Sevilla in their 4-0 home win over Barcelona and leads the La Liga scorers’ table with nineteen goals. Six rounds before the end of the competition, the fight for the Pichichi trophy is still open.
