Bayern Munich have officially confirmed the departure of both CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in the last few hours. The Bavarian big club also took the opportunity to name a successor to the former famous goalkeeper.
According to German media, German football giant Bayern Munich has already decided on Friday to dismiss two prominent club personnel.
However, everything was officially confirmed only after the last round, when Bayern won the championship title thanks to Dortmund’s failure in the home match against Mainz on the soil of Cologne.
Hasan Salihamidzic, who is retiring as sporting director at the Bavarian club, went to Cologne to support Bayern’s players. However, the now former CEO was reportedly forbidden to do so.
Fans were understandably not happy about the move, with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel also expressing his concern about the decision.
Kahn was appointed to Bayern’s board of directors at the beginning of January 2020, and took over as CEO in July 2021. During his time on the German giant’s board, they won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Bundesliga twice, DFB Cup and DFL Super Cup.
“The decision to say goodbye to Oliver Kahn was not an easy one for the Supervisory Board. However, given the overall developments, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment to head the executive board,” club president Herbert Heiner told the club’s website.
“We would like to thank Oliver Kahn for his commitment, ideas and for everything we have achieved together. He will always remain a great personality of FC Bayern. We wish him all the best for the future,” he added.
Kahn will be succeeded in his current position by Jan-Christian Dreesen, who has been Bayern’s vice-chairman for ten years.
