Arteta can’t get enough! Arsenal close to £40m midfield signing

Arsenal are having a dream start to the season. Three games, three wins and a 9:2 record. In addition, the reinforcements Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have acclimatised well and the Gunners are on a roll. But Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen the team even more and that’s why he is looking for a £40 million signing.

According to trusted transfer insider Dean Jones, Arsenal could complete the transfer of Youri Tielemans from Leicester this week if they send a final offer.

The Gunners have been chasing the Belgian midfielder all summer, but have yet to send a concrete offer. However, according to Jones, the entire transfer could be completed this week.

Tielemans was left out of the squad for the game against Southampton at the weekend as he has already headed elsewhere. He might just be at Arsenal.

“We go into a Premier League game and we have players who don’t have their heads set right,” Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers explained why he didn’t nominate one of his biggest stars for the game.

The Foxes have priced their midfielder at £40 million and given his current state of mind, they would be willing to sell him because the 25-year-old midfielder is hungry for a move to a bigger club and keeping him at the King Power Stadium at any cost does not make sense. Moreover, with the Belgian out of contract next year, he would leave for free.

So if Arsenal do indeed send out a bid of this magnitude, Tielemans could still change into red before the end of the week.

However, it is quite likely that Arsenal will wait until the very end of the transfer window, putting Leicester under pressure. It will thus try to bring the price down as much as possible, as Tielemans’ price would drop significantly in the winter transfer window and there would be none in the summer.
