Ilkay Gündogan is only under contract at Manchester City until the end of the season and there are many clubs that would like to take advantage of that. The competition for this year’s league title, Arsenal London, have started to take a liking to him.
The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta intends to strengthen the midfield line in the summer, which in the winter acquired the Italian matador Jorginho from Chelsea, but he is not yet giving optimal performances, so Arsenal will look for another midfielder after the season.
As we informed you a few days ago, Arteta and co. Declan Rice from West Ham United and Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but now they want to turn their attention to the German international and the Citizens’ driving force.
If the Canaries manage to get Gündogan, it will be the third reinforcement from Manchester City in a short period of time.
Indeed, last summer Arsenal brought in defender Olexandr Zinchenko and striker Gabriel Jesus from a rival club.
And it has to be said that both transfers were successful and the Ukrainian and Brazilian international respectively managed to raise the London giant’s game even higher. To get Gündogan for free now would be a real coup for Arsenal.
Gündogan has been doing particularly well of late, scoring important goals and showing how he can still be a key man to coach Pepe Guardiola’s game.
At Arsenal, he could mentor the offensive-minded young captain Martin Ödegaard, who has been dragging the Gunners this season.
