Boxing has suffered a huge blow, the biggest heavyweight boxing match of the century has failed. On the one hand, the undefeated WBC world champion and living legend Tyson Fury, on the other, the holder of the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts Oleksandr Usyk.
When arranging this spectacular fight, two venues were considered. However, the Wembley in London won out over Saudi Arabia, but unfortunately, due to the financial hassle, this fight did not happen. At least for now.
For the Arab sheikhs are getting back in the game and will try to rekindle the spark of boxing’s lost glory. They are negotiating a tournament that could go down in boxing history as the biggest ever.
If the negotiations are successful, we could see four of the best heavyweights in boxing today in one night.
The information that has been circulating through the world media has now been confirmed by world famous promoter Eddie Hearn. ” I can confirm that some talks have already taken place,” he said in an interview with iFL TV. “It would cost a lot of money and negotiation, but it could be an option.”
The main event of the night would have been the cancelled Fury vs. Usyk fight, preceded by a battle between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder at the same gala. Hearn also confirmed that the mega tournament would take place in Saudi Arabia this December.
The speculation was confirmed to the same source by Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott, so information about negotiations is probably indeed ongoing.
It would be the biggest boxing tournament in history and would bring a huge wave of attention back to boxing. However, negotiating such a tournament will certainly not be easy.
