West Ham United are likely to bring in a big signing to their ranks. Lucas Paquetá is expected to join the defence from Olympique Lyon. He has passed his medical and a signing already seems very close.
According to the respected and trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, West Ham are very close to signing the 25-year-old Paqueta from Lyon.
The Brazilian offensive midfielder has already undergone a mandatory medical and is reportedly ready to sign a five-year contract with the London club. West Ham are now hoping to complete the transfer before Monday morning.
Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal can thus look forward to a very interesting player. Paquetá tried his first European engagement in 2019, when he transferred from Brazilian side Flamengo to AC Milan.
The Rossoneri spent over €38 million for him then, with Paquetá moving to Lyon on 30 September 2020. The French club sent €20 million for him to Italy.
In a Lyon jersey, Paquetá has featured in 80 games across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and adding 14 assists on top. This will undoubtedly be a significant boost to the offensive ranks for West Ham.
Based on BBC reports, West Ham are set to pay Lyon £36.5 million. A further 14.4 million then includes bonuses.
So if the Hammers complete this transfer, it will mean breaking the club’s transfer record.
