A great match between two great French teams ended scandalously. Already in the second minute, when Dimitri Payet went to take a corner kick, he was attacked by the fans. One of them threw a plastic bottle at him when the Marseille star wasn’t expecting it.
The player was immediately knocked to the ground and was shaken, so he naturally lay on it for some time. The referee decided to stop the game and both teams headed to the booths.
Lyon wanted to continue the match and finish it, but Marseille had it the other way round. So when the referee offered to finish the match about an hour after the stoppage, the visitors refused for safety reasons.
After two hours, it was finally decided that the match would definitely not be played on Sunday at least. On Monday, the disciplinary committee will meet because of the whole incident.
It is worth mentioning that the person who threw the bottle at Payet was arrested and escorted out of the stadium, moreover, he obviously angered the leadership of his boiler and even before identification by the police he received a well-deserved slap from one of the leaders of his sector.
This was not the first time Payet had been the victim of such an attack this season. A virtually identical situation happened during the Marseille v Nice match, where the match was also not played.
One thing is certain. In Ligue 1, such excesses from the spectators certainly do not make a good name, which was also stated by the legendary Thierry Henry in an interview with the French media.
