The Brazilian’s stint in a Liverpool jersey has finally come to an end after a long and eventful 8 years. At the end of June this year his contract expired and he did not sign a new one, Firmino himself agreed to move elsewhere.
In the last few months, there has been speculation about where Firmino will actually head. One of the possibilities was AC Milan, who had already shown interest in the Brazilian striker in the past.
Firmino, however, will be based elsewhere. Outside Europe. The Maceió native has moved to Saudi Arabia, specifically to Al-Ahli.
A newcomer to the Saudi Arabian top flight. Last season, Al-Ahli dominated the second league and was promoted back to the Saudi Pro League.
The thirty-one-year-old forward has agreed a three-year contract with the Saudi team. This is the second major signing from Europe for the Jeddah club.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has also recently joined Al-Ahli. Notably, the club is also interested in Sadio Mané from Bayern Munich.
Firmino at Liverpool…
As we write above, Firmino spent eight years in the jersey of the English big club. He moved to Anfield Road in 2015, when Liverpool sent €41 million to Hoffenheim for him.
During that time, he appeared in 362 competitive matches for the Reds, in which he scored 111 goals and added 79 assists. With Liverpool, he won the Champions League, the FA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the English League Cup and Super Cup.
