West Ham’s defence is plagued by a large number of players. In recent games, right-back Ben Johnson has had to play at full-back. Due to this, today the London club announced the signing of Thilo Kehrer from PSG. The German international is moving to London for a sum of around £15 million.

West Ham today announced the signing of defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain. The 25-year-old German defender becomes the Hammers’ sixth new signing after signing a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further two seasons.

Kehrer, who can play as a stopper or right-back, will wear the number 24 jersey at the club, a number recently vacated by Ryan Fredericks, who left for Bournemouth on a free transfer.

“I am very excited to have signed for West Ham. It’s the best league in the world and I’m excited to come and play in the Premier League,” Kehrer told the club’s website after signing the contract.

Manager David Moyes added: “ I’m really pleased to welcome Thilo to West Ham. He is a talented player who can play in several defensive positions, which will strengthen and deepen our current options.”

The Hammers have already signed goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, central defender Nayef Aguerd, midfielder Flynn Downes, striker Maxwell Cornet and forward Gianluca Scamacca this season.

West Ham’s signing of Kehrer is a response to the big turnover that has plagued them in defence. Among the injured players is new summer signing Nayef Aguerd from Stade Rennes.

Kehrer has racked up 128 starts in all competitions for the French giants in his four seasons at the club. He moves to east London for a fee of £15m.

The former Schalke player won three Ligue 1 titles with PSG and also won two Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue titles and the Trophee des Champions during his time at the Parc des Princes.
