When we recently wrote about how busy it is around Danish tennis player Rune, we had no idea that it would soon be even busier. What has the promising player managed to do in just a few days? And what do fans see as the main cause of his problems?

Rune and the rapid developments around him

He is considered one of the greatest tennis promises of our time. Danish tennis player Holger Rune has made it to the elite world top ten of the ATP rankings. And he did it at just nineteen years old.

Now he’s a year older and a lot more experienced. Especially, unfortunately, negative experience. The best Dane on the circuit went through a significant performance slump in the latter part of 2023.

The addition of Rune to the coaching team should have helped solve all that. The arrival of Boris Becker was a huge asset, and former Roger Federer coach Severin Luthi strengthened the team at the end of the year.

After a few months, everything is different. Luthi is no longer helping Rune and the beginning of the year was flawed even from a tennis point of view for Rune. The early elimination from the Australian Open was overshadowed by two minor tennis events.

To start the year, the 20-year-old Dane lost to Dimitrov in the final of the Brisbane tournament and last week he retired for health reasons in Montpellier. In France, he was one of the tournament’s main favourites and even managed one positive jubilee there . The bad news, however, prevails. The most recent one concerns his coaching staff again.

Becker’s end and his reasons

Like a bolt from the blue came Becker’s statement on the X network. In it, the former tennis star announced the end of his collaboration with Rune. The main reason is the fact that he would need to devote more time to the player than he himself is capable of.

Speculations also surfaced directly under the six-time grand slam winner’s post. And very often they’re pointing in one direction. That is Rune’s manager and mother all rolled into one. The issue of working with her is mentioned by a large number of tennis fans.

After all, the problem between parents and coaches is always a topic. And in tennis especially. The early demise of both Luthi and Becker certainly suggests so.

The restart of Rune’s results will be prolonged at the very least due to injury. On the other hand, Becker’s words still apply. This tennis player is a diamond in the rough . The question is who will get a proper opportunity to cut it.
