Jake Paul’s got a problem on his hands? Pretty much. After beating UFC legend Nate Diaz, he’s got a challenge from a recognized star. Boxing champion Claressa Shields wants to take him on in the ring.
The name Claressa Shields doesn’t ring a bell? Then know that at 28 years old, she is arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time. She holds multiple world titles in three weight classes, even managing to unify the WBC and IBF titles.
In addition, the American champion holds the record of being the champion in two and three weight classes in the least number of fights. As of October 2022, she is seen as the best middleweight in the world and the best active female boxer across all weight classes, according to the prestigious BoxRec.
In addition, Shields is the only person in the boxing world, female or male, to hold all four major world titles, the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO, in two weight classes.
Besides, the American fighter holds two gold medals from the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. The list of her achievements could go on for some time. She is, in short, an extraordinary woman.
It is no wonder that she does not lack confidence and that she would like new challenges. Apart from the fact that she has already scored a fight under the PFL brand under MMA rules, she would like to cut a boxing match with a man. And not just any man.
For Shields is challenging the popular Jake Paul, an influencer who of course beats UFC legends in boxing. Most recently, he took on Nate Diaz.
“Honestly, I really want to fight him. I’d win and he knows it,” Shields expressed to TMZ Sports. “He beat Diaz, but he’s not a real fighter, he’s an MMA fighter, he couldn’t use the things he does best there and that was Paul’s advantage,” she added.
According to the American fighter, Paul only had one real fight against Tommy Fury, whom he lost to. Otherwise, he says he’s only fought people who have poor defenses, which they have paid the price for. “He couldn’t handle me. I have too much experience for him,” Shields is clear.
It’s highly unlikely that the fight will happen, but it would certainly be an interesting measuring of strength. In addition, both Paul and Shields are signed in the PFL organization.
