Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has commented on the incident between him and Cesar Azpilicueta in a recent interview.

Werecently informed you about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s dastardly foul on Cesar Azpilicueta. He made it in the World Cup qualifying match in Qatar between Sweden and Spain. Just before the end of the game, as the Swedes were about to play a corner kick, the AC Milan striker ran into the Chelsea defender from behind and literally knocked him down on the spot.

In an interview with the Guardian, the legend with Balkan blood revisited the incident. Zlatan didn’t hide behind anything and was completely open about what was behind it.

“I did it on purpose. I’m not ashamed of it and I would do it again,” Ibrahimovic admitted.

What made him do it?

“Azpilicueta behaved inappropriately towards one of our players. He was condescending, he thought he could afford to do that to a 20-year-old player, a decent one at that,” he described the reasons for the physical clash with the Spain defender.

“It’s not something I would say on the spot, but I wanted to send a clear message: ‘If you don’t have the balls to behave like that against me, don’t behave like that against my teammate!’

“Nobody messes with me and I will protect my teammates as much as I can. That’s just me,” Ibrahimovic concluded.

There is no doubt that there is a big difference between having a player of this calibre on your side or on the other side.
