After the biggest spending spree in history, Chelsea looks to the future! Unsubtle transfers of youngsters at Stamford Bridge
When American billionaire Todd Boehly took over the London club a year ago, he spent more than 280 million euros on new signings in his first transfer window. In the winter, it was even €50 million more. But now he seems to have calmed down a bit in buying world stars and is looking to the future.
When American billionaire Todd Boehly took over the London club a year ago, he spent more than 280 million euros on new signings in his first transfer window. In the winter, it was even €50 million more. But now he seems to have calmed down a bit in buying world stars and is looking to the future.
Already in the winter only young players with great potential started to arrive. After all, none of the players like Fernandez, Mudryk, Gusto, Madueke, Fofana, Badiashile, Santos or Slonina are over the age of 23. Yet, Todd Boehly was willing to spend significant sums of money for them.
During the current transfer period, he has so far, by his standards, kept a low profile. The biggest transfer bombshell is certainly French striker Christopher Nkunku, but his €60 million move from Leipzig has been agreed since the winter.
He then sent €37 million to Villareal for Senegalese marksman Nicolas Jackson, in which he is probably trying to find a new Drogba. This transfer may be closing the door a bit on Molde FK’s winter acquisition David Datro Fofana, who according to the latest reports will go on loan.
Another player whose transfer has already been negotiated is 16-year-old Ecuadorian Kendry Paez. However, the offensive midfielder will join the Blues in 2 years. It is the left winger Diego Moreira from Benfica who will join as a free agent immediately, but some sort of guest appearance is expected.
On the other side of the attack, the right wing, Chelsea are again finalizing the arrival of 18-year-old Ângelo Gabriel from Santos. The technical winger is considered one of Brazil’s top talents. This is the second arrival from the Brazilian league after Santos, who will also get his first chance at Chelsea in the summer.
And he may not be the last. In fact, Flamengo winger Matheus Franca is also in Chelsea’s sights. Newcastle were already interested in him in the winter and will need to strengthen for the Champions League. Chelsea’s rivals Arsenal were also interested.
From Norwich came striker Alex Matos, but for now he is more of a youth team reinforcement. Levi Colwill, Andrey Santos, Ian Maatsen and Cesare Casadei are also returning from loan spells. The first two should get their chance, while Maatsen and Casadei are expected to be on loan in the Premier League.
However, it looks like Chelsea are far from having the last word in the transfer market. In fact, they are still looking around for a new striker and there is a lot of interest in talented midfielders Moises Caicedo and Gabri Veiga.
